Choosing Holmium 2100 nm Laser Safety Eyewear

There are quite a few different options to consider when choosing laser safety glasses specifically for Holmium lasers. Below will outline the pros and cons of glass filter lenses compared to polycarbonate lenses for Holmium laser eyewear

The first main option is whether or not to use a polycarbonate filter lens or a glass filter lens.

The glass lens has the advantage in improved clarity and visibility as well as highly visible light transmission (VLT) of 70-75% providing almost clear visibility. The glass lens also provides improved clarity over the polycarbonate lens and are less susceptible to scratches. Glass lenses in Holmium laser safety eyewear tend to cover a broader range of lasers from Holmium, Nd YAG and CO2 as well as telecom laser wavelengths.

The polycarbonate lens has the advantages over the filter glass lenses in that they are lighter weight making them more comfortable for the surgeon to wear particularly over long periods of time. They also have the advantage of being lower cost than the glass lenses.
