OD 7+ Laser Safety Glasses for Blue and Green Wavelength Protection

Laser systems emitting in the visible spectrum—particularly blue (445–455 nm) and green (532 nm)—are among the most common in laboratory, industrial, and medical environments. These wavelengths are often used for applications such as ophthalmic procedures, biomedical research, laser marking, and engraving, where precision and intensity demand strict safety measures.

The LG-005 laser safety glasses are designed specifically to protect users from accidental exposure to these visible and near-UV wavelengths. With an Optical Density (OD) of 7+ from 190 nm to 532 nm, they reduce transmitted laser energy by a factor of ten million or more. This attenuation level exceeds typical requirements for Class 3B and Class 4 laser systems, offering robust eye protection in scenarios involving both continuous-wave and pulsed laser sources.

Optical Density and L-Rating Explained

The OD rating quantifies how effectively a filter attenuates laser radiation at specific wavelengths. An OD 7+ means only one ten-millionth of the beam passes through the lens. In EN207 terms, the LG-005 carries D LB7 + IR LB4 for 180–315 nm and DIRM LB6 S for 315–532 nm, ensuring protection across both direct and diffuse exposure types.

Visibility and Design Considerations

With a Visible Light Transmission (VLT) of 48%, the LG-005 maintains excellent visibility and colour balance, allowing users to safely view work surfaces without over-darkening. Its fit-over design accommodates prescription glasses, and side shields provide additional peripheral protection against scattered radiation.

Standards and Applications

Complying with AS/NZS 2211.1:2004, ANSI Z136, and EN207/208, the LG-005 glasses meet the highest international laser safety benchmarks. Typical applications include:

  • Medical laser surgery and phototherapy systems

  • Ophthalmic laser alignment and calibration

  • Scientific research using frequency-doubled or diode-pumped solid-state lasers

  • Industrial engraving, cutting, and marking
